When are we going to wake up and realize the products that we buy regularly are not actually the products; we are. The manufacturers here and abroad have managed to seduce consumers into buying just about anything. They certainly entice us with enough of the right advertising.
People crave products like never before. Not buying doesn’t even seem like an option to us anymore. Without getting what we see, it leaves an empty feeling inside that is hard to overcome. That is until we realize in most cases that we have lived our entire lives without that product.
The cravings for these items can be so strong that it takes strong convincing not to buy them. How silly is it that we seemingly cannot live without something? Billions of people have lived just fine without it, yet for some strange reason, we cannot. Yes, many of the products add value to daily life. However, just as many, if not more, eventually end up in a landfill.
This is not intended to condemn consumerism in its entirety. Just recognize that everything comes with a price. The items we buy may not cost much in whatever currency we pay with. However, the price paid is only a small consideration in comparison with the cost of time. Most people trade hours of life they will never get back for items that are quickly discarded not long after.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking items are cheap. They always cost you something.
