On a recent Saturday morning, I woke up a little after 7:00 a.m. without the sound of an alarm clock. I got up and performed my usual routine of getting ready and eating breakfast. Then I read for a little while at the kitchen table when suddenly, I heard it. The continuous blaring sounds of an ice cream truck echoing through my neighborhood.

It’s true, they still exist! We have a woman who drives around our neighborhood with an ice cream truck. The echoing sounds of delicious fantasy fill the neighborhood, luring those with a fondness to chocolatey goodness. Sure, it is a little pricey, but when it drives by and is right there, prime for the taking, it’s hard to resist. However, it wasn’t hard to resist at all at 8:00 a.m.!

I thought, what is this idiot doing driving around the neighborhood playing ridiculous music at this hour in the morning. It’s true, I have tendencies to react inappropriately at times and I must force better behavior out of myself. Anyway, after twenty seconds of that crap, I got up from the table and went toward the bedroom. The sounds grew louder the closer I got to the bedroom. I must admit – there was in fact, no ice cream truck. It was my phone laying on the dresser, chiming out the comparatively close sounds of an ice cream truck. I forgot the alarm clock on my phone was set the night before, in case I happened to naturally oversleep. There I was, blasting my frustration at the nonexistent ice cream truck lady. I asked myself, who is the idiot now?

I must admit, my own thoughts and reactions aren’t always good. Some things that I feel certain about in one moment turn out to be far different from what I originally thought. It is furthermore embarrassing when I simply do not have all the facts and make a decision that later comes back to haunt me. Without all the facts, a rush to judgment can prove detrimental to our pride and ego, which I guess is how it should be. However, even with the facts, the waters can still be muddy so tread lightly. A rush to judgment can make one look foolish, as I’ve so clearly demonstrated!
