If we want to land the perfect opportunity, it is all about timing and being ready the moment it arrives. If we wait too long, we will miss our chance at the particular opportunity, which may never come around again. Many investors look back in history and think to themselves, “if I had invested in this company back then, I would be rich by now!”

This rings true for many of us. Although we have regrets, it is pointless to dwell on them for too long. One reason to remember them is to feel the slight sting of regret, which ushers in fresh motivation to be prepared for the next time a terrific opportunity comes around. It is tempting to think there will never be another opportunity like the one before and it is not worth trying to prepare. While this might be true, it is definitely still worth preparing for the next one to come. We never know, the next one could be the opportunity of a lifetime. If we squander all our time and energy moping over past regrets, we will have not only our ruined past chances, but we also will ruin future opportunities as well.

The moral of the story is to get busy. Learn from past mistakes and regrets and allow them to be fuel to drive us into our future. Do not wait to get started. Opportunities comes along while we are watching and waiting. Procrastination is what continues to kill many a banana. The moment we see a banana is bright yellow, with barely any brown in the peel, it looks ready to be eaten. But if we wait until the next day, it just might be mush that we eat. Rather than seizing the moment, we waited for tomorrow and then it is no longer appealing.

Recognize the value in one opportunity. In love, the guy who waits to take a chance at asking out a girl, can only wait so long. If he will not ask her, another guy will. Sometimes it takes pushing through fear in order to take advantage of an opportunity. Could it be time to take a risk and go for it? Of course, we may be met with trouble. But it is interesting how the greatest resistance often comes before greatest opportunity. If we are met with a challenge, that may just be a sign that it is test time, to see whether or not we prepared for the next opportunity!
