Life is hectic. But how much of the rush is caused by our own decisions? After thinking about it, most of us can readily admit this is true. When you acknowledge and take responsibility for your decisions, you can identify things done on a regular basis that create your rushed lifestyle. Here are three simple ways to help alleviate a rushed lifestyle.

1. Do today’s activities today. When you don’t get things done right away, they tend to pile up on you. We have all seen a closet full of junk and when the door opens, watch out! All the junk comes piling out. That’s the way our to do list gets when we put today’s activities off until tomorrow. It adds a tremendous amount of stress to life when we procrastinate.

2. Manage your time. I’m not sure why but for some reason while driving, every second feels like an eternity, especially when the person in front of you is not moving. If it takes 10 minutes to get somewhere and you leave 10 minutes before you have to be there then you leave no cushion of time for a problem. Depending on the distance, you may need to travel an extra 5 minutes. If you have to travel longer, maybe you need an extra 15 minutes. Sure, it takes away time spent on other things, but if it keeps that large blood vessel in your head from exploding, it’s worth it. Find a positive use for that extra time. Check emails. Or just relax for a few minutes. You might find it more enjoyable than always withstanding the pressure of a hurried lifestyle.

3. Take a few minutes and give thanks for things important to you. If that’s too long, take moments in which you take time to appreciate life. In the busyness of life, we must remember what is important. We often rush ourselves around needlessly without thinking about why we are doing so. This time of reflection on what is important may identify a few activities in life that are less meaningful to eliminate from your schedule.

Stay on top of things. Make it a habit to watch how you invest your time. In moments of reflection, gain a better understanding of how to appreciate and manage your life.
