We will never enjoy our work so much as when we give it our all. When all is consumed, we will have climbed to the highest peak using every tool our disposal. Not many will join us, but the view is magnificent! Work ethic keeps us going long past the desire to quit. A job is a unique opportunity to put into practice something we have learned but also provides a chance to learn more. If we develop a work ethic that will blow the minds of our employers, the results will take us to new heights that will otherwise never be reached.

Every job always gives something to take away from it. Sometimes the challenge is in looking for value when we feel a job is beneath us, unworthy of our talents and abilities. In a job at a restaurant, learn the need for cleanliness and presentation. In construction, learn useful skills around the house and the value of a hard day’s work. In a factory, learn about productivity and working to achieve higher levels. In engineering, learn about how things work.

People look at a job and think of themselves as a person who does that job. What do we do, is one of the most commonly asked questions upon meeting a stranger. But once we identify as someone who does a particular job, everyone will see us as a doer of that job. That person paints, therefore, they are a painter. This person is a plumber, therefore they do plumbing. It is no surprise that we do this, but it often places limitations on our abilities.

To each person, a gift or set of gifts is distributed. Just because we have done a particular job for a period of time, does not make us solely a performer of that job. Certainly, if we stick with that craft, we may become an expert. For a time, it may pay us well. But there are times when a gift is no longer valued the same as it was in the past. Manufacturing jobs have been transformed altogether, some of which have disappeared altogether. Automated robots have replaced repetitive movements. Profitability is at the forefront of change and as such, is a constant reminder to stay one step ahead of the curve. A person cannot as easily be stuck in their ways, at least not the way they used to. Technology ushers in change exponentially faster than ever before. It is up to us to be ready when change comes.

Recognize the value in one job. Continue to make the most out of whatever job is being performed. Be ready in case the time comes to make a change. Enhance current skills and add more along the way. Study it, perform it faithfully, and learn the value of one job.
